  1. I've reached a new level of ham handedness and pulled a spark plug wire out the the ignition coil.  Anyone have any experience with this?  Can it be reinstalled or do I have to spring for a new coil? errrrrrrrrrrr

    thanks

  2. Anyone happen to have any manuals or knowledge on wiring the old two D plug style connectors on a GRT EIS unit ?  The newer units had one bigger D connector but this one has two smaller one.  I've been able to match up one to the engine inputs (egt, oil ps,cht i etc).  The second connector just has three wires so I'm assuming one is power, one is ground and the third goes to the warning light but they are not marked and I don't want to hook them up wrong and let the magjc smoke out.    The folks at GRT are looking but so far havent been able to find anything!

    Thanks,

  3. I guess I could take a chance on it and send the gearbox to Av8r3400 to fix.  Looks like he is going to be a 912 gearbox pro when he gets through sorting his out!!

  4. Thanks, staying away from Ebay

I've been talking with the guy on Barnstromers.  It's a 17 yr old engine that's just come off a KF that was ground looped and had a prop strike.  No entries in the engine log since 2006.  He wont come off his asking price.  Maybe I'm wrong but just a few too many issues for that $.

  5. Guys,

I'm coming to like the 582 now after about 10 hrs.  I still have a miss or roughness from idle up to about 4500 rpm.  It may still be there at TO and cruise power but Im just not noticing it.  Temps and EGT at TO and cruise are good.  The all the plugs look good, I've syn'd the carbs etc. but nothing seems to help.  It appears worst on the left ignition that the right but it's hard to tell.  Any suggestion as to where to start hunting ?

    thanks,

  6. I'm selling my KFIII.  It's currently flying with a 912ul, Ivo three blade prop, Sept. annual, recovered three yrs. ago, custom trailer made for KF.  It's not an award winner but a nice solid good flying Kitfox.  If anyone wants I'll sell it with a 582 and all the firewall forward (mount, prop, instruments etc.) $16500 with the 912, $9200 with the 582.  Wife counted three airplanes in the hanger !! I'm dealing

Shoot me a PM for details

  7. I'm using Pennsoil XLF with the injection. It's not so much a gas smell as a oily exhaust smell. All connections are tight and the motor is clean but I must be getting exhaust in the cabin some how. Not so much of a problem now it's still warm and I can fly with plenty of vents open but I need to get it sorted out before cold weather. I'm located at NC27 in Lenoir NC. Thx EG

  8. Guys,

I'm only on my 5th hour of 582 flying now so please bear with me.  I've pitched the prop (70in Warp 2 blade) to turn about 6100 static(TinyTac) thinking it would turn up to about 6500 or so for climb out but instead of increasing the rpm drops back to about 5900 on cliimb.  Whats up with that, I thought the rpm increased as the prop unloaded in the climb.  Think I need to take a little pitch out for a higher static rpm to get it further in the power band for T.O ?

I have been impressed with the motor so far, just wish I didnt smell like Ive been out weed eating everytime after I fly.  Gotta work on the ventilation.

    Thanks,

    EG

  9. Thanks everyone for your help in getting my 582 sorted out. I flew the S7 for the first time today.  The engine ran great, all temps were well in the green. It was my first time behind a two stroke, I was impressed.  The engine was smooth and had plenty of power.  You guys really are a great resource and really helped get my confidence up in the motor.

Now I have to decide between the KF and the S7 errrrrrr

  10. another vote for the Tiny Tach.  Third tach on my 582. max static rpm: UMA tach 4800 rpm, Aviasport Tach 7000 rpm, Tiny Tach 6250 rpm. They were all pretty equal until about 5000 rpm then the two needle tachs were off.

  11.  My trusty new Harbor Freight compression tester is giving me 80 psi on both cyl.  Seems odd that if it had a stuck ring etc. both cyls would give the exact same reading.  The engine is running smooth and turning a 70in Warp two blade (11 degree pitch) at 6500 static.  I ground ran it at 6500 for two minutes and the EGT ran 1050 and the water temp stabilized about 180.  You guys think this thing has problems ?

I sure appreciate your help.  No one around here know dick about a 582.  They are all busy trying to get the plastic covering off the interior cushions of their RV12s.  That thing must be the Crysler New Yorker of the homebuilt world !!

  12. Guys,

I'm getting a condition inspection on a 582 greyhead with about 150 hrs.  guy wants a compression check.  I cant seem to find any numbers .  What's good ? 70-80 -120 ?  engine warm or cold ?  is it really necessary to do one at all ?

    thanks

  13. I used the ACS stuff on my horizontal stab struts.  Works pretty good but has kind of a funky leading edge.  I ended up covering it with duc tape to smooth it out.  Thinking balsa trailing edges from the hobby shop might be the way to go for the jury struts.  My only concern is about how easily they might get damaged
