  1. Haha I had a few more to post but decided to keep it simple . Edmo I might be a good competitor for amount of ex's. To many tried to change me and quickly met the door . Luckily my wife doesn't want me to change . Can't complain she's pretty damn hott too . I married out of my league for sure .

You guys make me feel very poor, but I may have a bigger collection of Xs than most!   EDMO

  2. I'll look into it but your best source of info would be Matt at Recreational Power . That guy can answer any questions you have about hirth

@ chopndrag.....engine received.....appears to be as stated. Pistons look new in cylinders. looking forward to running it......What can you tell me about pump carbs. do they compensate for altitude?

  3. Thanks , The last thing I'm going to get scared about is my door opening. I've flown plenty of aircraft doors off so it wasn't a big deal . I took a photographer up to shoot someones business from the air . Doors off in a Kolb ss ? The one that actually looks like a plane . Crazy ass photographer was hanging out the door while we were sideways so he could get the perfect shot . I was always taught to fly the plane first then diagnose the problem . Can't pull over in the sky !!!!

  4. I found a picture it doesn't show much but my master cylinders are smaller it looks like

  5. Haha my daughter experienced her door opening going from base to final . Plane didn't have struts in the door when I got it . That on top of a tab a tad to high to get a solid bite on the door latch made the door pop open . I threw it into a slip and slammed the door . Needless to say 50 lb gas struts and the tab taken care of means no sudden slips . She was scared for a second but I kept my cool so she realised no big deal she was buckled in anyway. Having the giant tail and rudder definitely helps .

  6. My mkIV is a nose dragger with all the tubes connected . My master cylinders are on top not next to my rudder pedal like that .

  7. you gotta play with the inputs.  you can slip these birds so hard they have the flight characteristics of a greased anvil.  Yes, lots of power on the rudder is the norm with these birds.  As in, a little rudder will go a long ways.

Definitely fun to slip once you figure out the rudder input. If I barely kick mine to the side and drop the wing it starts sinking fast.

  8. Where is your CG at and at what speeds are you flying?  If I am just cruising around at 70 or so the tail is always low.  If I get it up to around 90 the tail comes up and it feels more "solid"

Believe it or not, a more aft CG helps as you can get rid of all that up trim and she flys much better all the way around.

    :BC:

I pitched my prop for speed and all my tail low issues were gone . I was constantly holding the stick back and trim to keep the nose up . A little playing with my prop I now climb out around 6200rpm and my plane definitely flies better .

  9. I always check , wiggle and look over my flaperon mounts everytime. As for a brs STAY AWAY !!!! If you fly like the rest of us with your avid the brs won't even have time to open after you assess the situation. Proper maintenance is all it boils down to .

  10. It's owned by a older gentlemen and just wants someone to enjoy it . I might even pick it up myself. He gave me a personal price that's hard to pass up . They're pretty much like an avid just a little different. There's also a rv6 around me going for a steal along with a couple hi max planes . I need to get rich so I can buy these and build them up .

  11. Well the board did not except my offer last night. I left it open and told them that I was also looking at another project. A little bummed but all things happen for a reason. Mike

I know where a Rans s6 is for sale. Fuselage is done no engine or avionics but has all the stuff to build the wings etc and a bunch of other stuff with it .

  12. Ed,  I think you were drinking from the same bottle as TJay.  :-)  (must have been a big one ;-)  As far as the tanks go, I think someone had some fiberglass ones for sale just recently.  I would take those over the aluminum ones if it was me.  Aluminum tanks in Avid style wings had a habit of developing cracks.  Also, yours look like 6 gallon ones, going with the larger fiberglass ones would give more capacity as well.  Another thing on that topic to find out about is are the ribs Kitfox or Avid.  Even though both had an undercamber early on, (Kitfox 4 and later are different) the Avid and Kitfox ribs are not the same.  so a Kitfox tank will not fit good in an Avid wing and vise versa.  On a different topic, but still relating to your project, I remembered today about a guy I talked to in Wisconsin a year or so ago.  He had bought a Raven and it had some broken weld joints after it was trailered to him.  It turned out that the tubing had been brazed together.  Leni is the welding expert around here, and while I have brazed some thin steel together, and even some stainless steel, and both of them held, I would never have thought to try it on an aircraft fuselage.   I would look at the tubing joints first off.  Any way keep us informed.  JImChuk

PS.  TJay and Ed.  dump that bottle out! ;-)

I still have the 2 fiberglass 9 gallon tanks for sale.  I've had offers from other forums and went as far as boxing them up for the guy and he never bought them .

  13. An RV is a nice plane but I'm working class 100% and that plane isn't in the cards . I'll stick with flying a plane I don't have to have 3 jobs to buy parts for . I'll get my lil Avid going faster sooner or later .

  14. Man I think I screwed my post up. I get around 115mph indicated and 108 ground @ 6000 rpm with my speedwing . That was a nasty windy day and after I got the new tach in that was finally reading write. I haven't done the gap seals yet any recommendations? Oh and this was before the round cowl . ::: enter ricky bobby ::: "I wanna go fast " haha

Get a Sonex with the jet engine!  ;<)  Go Fast, Land fast!  EDMO

You build it I'll fly it haha . That's about the only way I'll get a toy like that .

  16. My slim, trim girlfriends did not affect my plane's performance; But by the time they were my huge, fat, ugly, soon-to-be Exs, They wouldn't fit in the seat and exceded the GW and I wouldn't let them fly with me!   ;<)

One improvement, IMO, that you could make on your Avid wings is to replace the rounded tips with Kitfox droop tips or some kind of aftermarket squared tips.  EDMO

If I did the droop tips on my wing would it slow my cruise or just help with slow flight and take off ? I always liked who they look but never really asked about them

Good question about cruise - as slow as these planes fly, it probably wouldn't matter.  I don't have an answer to that since no one has ever kept records and posted the results, except one Kitfox flyer who changed from Droop tips to Hoerner tips and said he couldn't tell any difference.    Yes, should help with slow flight and take off.   I did a post about the Piper shortwing experiments finding improvements with the squared tips.   ED

  17. At around 6000 rpm in windy weather I was showing around 115mph indicated and 108 mph ground . I just want to squeeze every bit of cruise I can get for my lil speed wing . I haven't done the gap seal yet .

  19. Definitely would be riddled with bullets before he even got 2 feet away where I live . Everyone carries a gun here .
