I'm set around 6100 on take off and get great overall performance. Previous owner had it pitched to climb and it sucked at cruise .

My mkIV has a compartment built into the fuselage with a door . You could always do something like that .

Joey had a cargo bag made that's awesome. I plan on getting one soon. Here is the company info . Just say you want a Avid cargo bag that goes behind the seat.

Craigslist in Tampa Florida or Ocala has a guy selling rotax exhaust stuff and he does have the elbow. You can also try rotax rick , california power systems and airscrew performance . I think cps sells used exhaust parts .

chopndrag added a post in a topic Warp drive props???
I played with my pitch to get my climb rpm around 6100-6200 rpm with my 582 . I get the best of both worlds that way.

Man Ed I'm sorry to hear. I really hope everything works out somehow. My step mother had the same diagnosis and was able to beat it . You're one of my favorite people on here and want you to be around way longer .

I have a warp drive 3 blade tapered tip I believe 72" and I'm set at 16.5 ° for overall performance. Warp drives website explains everything it helped me a lot .

I flew in the Florida summer heat with no overheating with my cheek radiators. Are they sealed good and have you tried the super coolant stuff . I had overheating issues when I changed my nose and had to use a different radiator set up . I tried the coolant stuff and it worked like a charm . Dropped my temps down 20°

Sounds to long . Maybe a stop somewhere further down the line could help ? Without pictures it's hard to say . I just went through this ordeal with a guy I'm helping rebuild a old ultralight

What motor and carb are you running? Spruce has tons of options you can look at .

chopndrag added a post in a topic Carb ice on a Stratus Soob with Bing carbs
Wow I am in the carb ice capital going by the chart and haven't had a issue. Then again I never really cut my throttle either . With the stubby speedwing you have to have power for landings or it drops like a rock . My dad had hundreds of hours with a ej22 and never had carb ice either . Just weird how the chart reads.

Don't under estimate the value of a old transponder. I just made good money with one I sold that was out of date .

In my opinion that should be done with any 2 stroke injected motor . One less thing to fail on you .

A 582 is a proven reliable motor and I fly over water and swamps all the time . A 4 stroke can go bad just as fast as any motor if it's not maintained. I'd just stick with the 582 . The yamaha is nice but I prefer having dual ignition just in case something goes wrong .

When I was getting my license I had a female cfi and she taught me that you need to keep the wings level , add full power and use the rudder until you are flying again. My dad also always told me that too . I know from experience that when sh!t hits the fan fast you sometimes forget the right thing to do . It sucks to have such an expensive plane get dinged up but he walked away from what could've been way worse.

Sure do . I'm just saying we all take calculated risks with our planes every time we go up . He new what he was possibly getting into when he went into the contest and yeah it sucks to ding a plane or anything even with insurance . I totalled a car and ended up in CICU for 7 days I had to still fork out cash from my own pocket to get another car so I could get back to work and support my family. I just see crashes in a contest form different because you are choosing to do it and have to deal with the consequences. More power to him of he can get the donations .
