  1. That does amaze me that the wood is holding that well.  Obviously by calculation it makes sense but I guess the wood is attached to each other too which helps with the opposing forces.

I think I'm going to give it a try.  Makes sense in the fact that it is a solid surface that the fabric is attaching to.  With the tube version the open space between the tubes would increase the chance of puncturing the fabric while getting in/out possibly!  Great Job Jim.....Thanks for another Great option!

Great People, Great Site and Great To Be Experimental! :BC: Randy

  2. Looking Good!  I'm' curious how this works out for you.  It could be done by almost anyone without any welding.  I want to widen mine but haven't done it yet so this could be an option.   Cheers Randy

  3. Vance....Sorry to hear about your mishap!  Well I guess not really yours but for you to deal with!  I guess at least the guy was honest enough to tell you rather than finding out the wrong way like in the air or something.  Looks like you are well on your way to getting it operational again though.

This brings up a Great point since I'm hoping to start my wings in the next few weeks.  I guess it would be a Good idea to do the ribtail reinforcement/cover while doing the actual build to strengthen that area ahead of time?

Wish you the Best at getting the bird back in the air!  Cheers Randy

  4. A New Airport!  You surely don't hear that often these days!!!

Great Video and the plane looks Great too!  Glad to see your getting some hours on it and hopefully having some fun along the way too! ;) Cheers Randy

  5. The cost for a speedwing extension kit is $2090. This includes all materials including speedwing ribs, 6061T6 spar extensions, 6061T6 circular I-beam spar splices, fiberglass wing tips, aluminum stringers, two part epoxy, rivets/hardware, and covering material - this is not a complete list of included items.  (Copied response from Mark at Avid)

Mine was $1950 less the wing tips since I already have them (unused).  Not sure what it cost previously.  Hope its worth it! :)  Cheers Randy

  6. As Joey "C5Engineer" mentioned he is working on producing parts.  I just ordered my Speedwing Extension with no problems so far.  Except parts were to be here yesterday but that is not his Fault!  The tracking number said yesterday but USPS is dragging their feet as usual!!  Cheers Randy

  7. Jim, My Mark IV wheel bearings look like this as described above with the seal attached.  The part number on it (LM11900LA) is a Timken Bearing number but if you just search the number it will come up very easy.  Hope this helps.....Cheers Randy

  9. Thanks for the info....That's funny.... that one was for sale on trade a plane not long ago, probably half a year or so.  It was in the Illinois area and said it had 10hrs on it then. There were no floats shown though.  I was keeping an eye on it back then.

After looking at that nice looking Bird makes me want to go work on mine!  Haven't been able to work on it for 2 months.  Hopefully back on it again tomorrow.   Cheers Randy

  10. Now That's Progress!  Looks Great!  Your Hired.... How much to come to PA?  HaHa  Keep up the Great work and posts.....Great pics to review when I start some covering in next few months hopefully!  :BC: Randy

  12. Yeah I remember one of the listings said about a custom dolly.  Thought "Double Tailwheel" sounds better.  HaHa.

I would've been very leary about all that as well!  Randy

  13. That is BS!  They wonder why people are FED up with them!  Glad to hear it came through for u finally!  Now you can have some fun!

I do remember seeing that one for sale with the double tailwheel kind of sticks out to remember it.  Congrats......Go Have Some Fun! :BC: Randy
