Sorry to hear that Joey, I have been watching the pictures that you post with your Rans flying buddy, take a little time off and do something with your family. There is always comfort in that.Sorry for the loss. Randy

I bet that would work good,I was thinking about putting a small heater core in mine and some sort of valves to regulate the temp but may do something like yours instead. My exhaust runs on the side of fuse so it may not be the most attractive. My Y pipe and pipe to the muffler are in the cowling and then it exits just before the muffler. 4. horsepower added a post in a topic Jetting question

Im not for sure Joey but if you have your clip on the top groove I think you are in your leanest setting already, I my be wrong. Seems like if it were in the top notch that it would have the needle farther into the jet making it get less fuel at the mid range. The guy I bought my engine from had them set in the 3rd groove and his field elevation was around 2200 I believe.Of course Im sure he changed for the different temps. Hows your new engine working, I see some big ones on Barnstormers that Rick sells 618 and 670, I wonder how reliable they are? Randy

He definately does some awesome work,we are having a fly-in in July, he will be invited, hope he comes.A friend of mine knows him and he said that he is a true genuine fellow. We probably wouldnt have a light sport class if it wasnt for him.Randy

    MZ 202
Was wondering if anyone uses the MZ 202 motor instead of the 582. I dont know much about them other than what I have read. They only have 60 HP but have more displacement. I already have my 582 for my Skyraider build but they have kind of caught my interest.Air cooled vs water cooled dont know if thats good or bad, factory is in B.C.Canada so dont know how parts would be to get.No oil injection so they may carbon up more.I should probably stick with what works but was curious. Thanks Randy

    Radiator Shuters
Glad were back up and running now I can ask you guys more questions.I have a radiator that mounts underneath the fuselage on my Skyraider build.A guy told me that I should put shutters on it for winter flying and to prevent cold seizures. What do you guys think?I have only had experiences with Lycomings and Continentals and shock cooling is rare with them if you use a little common sense.I have read if you keep the RPM,s up on final and keep the water circulating you should be ok. My motor is the grayhead so it is more prone to seizures than the new blue head.
    Thanks Randy

Looks good Joey,I have mechanical brakes on my Skyraider for now but my goal is to upgrade to hydraulics.I want to first see if I like the way my plane flies before I dump another million dollars into it.Nice sanitary looking job.Is the two fuel filters for the static ports for your instruments?Randy

I bought my radiator from Kitfox, It was 240.00 plus freight. It looks just like the one from Rotax but almost half the cost. Its 20 1/2 X 5 1/4 X 2.It was built for the 582 or the 912. Randy

    Engine Teardown?
Im getting close to the paint stage on my Skyraider build.I bought a 582 greyhead motor that has 121 hours since a Rotax rebuild.Do you guys think I should tear it down and do a decarbon and reseal it as it has been 5 years since it last ran?I bought it from a guy that had it in a Kitfox and has a very good log book entry of all the maintenace that he did on it.I am more worried about the seals than anything as it has set longer than the Rotax recomendation. Thanks Randy

Leni, Im putting the same type of radiator on my Skyraider, should it be mounted on rubber mounts or does the standoffs youmade have enough flexability? I was wondering how much drag these type create with it hanging out in the airstream like that.In my case I dont have any options as I dont have any room in my cowl for any other style. Thanks Randy

Looking good Joey,You shouldnt have any prop clearance issues with those monsters. Is that a Jack Russell Terrier I see.I have an 11 year old one, pretty cool dogs.He will probably be my co-pilot while I fly my 40 hours off.I wonder if it will land any different with those big tires, probably have to experiment with tire pressures until it feels right. 13. horsepower added a post in a topic Buying my new Avid

Leni, I see you use a in flight carb mixture control. Is it the one that Green Sky Adventures sell? I was wondering about getting it for my 582 but didnt know anyone that has it.We are at 2200 feet here but Lewiston is an hour away and it is about 900 feet so didnt know if jetting was going to be a problem if I go back and forth once in awhile.Im hoping to have mine in the air by Fall if all works out. Thanks Randy

If that shits for real then how would you like to be the first one to try that.I went skydiving once with my son but there is no way in hell I would try that. What happens when your arm strength goes away about half way down.WOW

I kind of remember reading something about that,I will probably bite the bullet and get a 406 ELT.Its kind of like insurance, you pay for it and hopefully never have to use it.Thanks Randy

    ELT or PLB
Im getting close to painting my fuselage but I have a question on ELT,s, if I have a Personal Locator Beacon, do I still have to have a ELT?I know that the 406 M/Hz ELT,s are spendy, the old system 121.5 are cheap on Ebay.I am going to have a PLB but not sure what to do on the ELT.If I have to have one I kind of want to get it mounted before I go much further on the Fuselage. The ELT will transmit on impact and PLB will not so maybe I have to have one anyway.
    Thanks Randy

  20. horsepower added a post in a topic Performace

Wow, Those numbers seem extremly high, I dont have an Avid but from what I have read the stall speeds should be in the 30,s and approach speeds more like 50. You might ask Joey or Leni what there speeds are at.Im not sure but the top speed is not too much over 80 to 90 MPH, so coming in on final at 80 sure seems like alot.I would definately get it figured out before trying to slow up too much on landing. The guys on this forum have lots of experience with these type of aircraft so there is a lot of trial and error knowlege out there so you are on the right track. Good Luck Randy

    2 Stroke Oil
Im not there yet but getting closer to mounting my 582 on the Skyraider. Was wondering what you guys run for oil, mine is oil injected if that makes a difference.I sell outboard motors and was wondering if you can run Nissan outboard oil.It is 50 percent mineral base and 50 percent synthetic made for direct fuel injection.I was told that you shouldnt run outboard oil but thought I would ask the hard core 2 strokers. Thanks Randy

  23. horsepower added a post in a topic How to tell if it's a MKIV

I was going to sell it at first but if someone really needs it you pay the freight and its yours. It came with my 582 when I bought it and it wont work on my Skyraider. If Leni doesnt want it for his engine build then let me know and its yours.Randy

  24. horsepower added a post in a topic Testing my new camera set up

Joey Thats great,Can hear the sound real good and nice landing to boot.I mounted a camera in my dragster once and I used a Roberts pole holder mount that we sell here at our boat shop. It clamped on the roll bar and then I made a adapter to hook to a VCR camera.I was pretty proud the way it turned out but first time I went to use it the NHRA tech guy made me take it off,he said it was not approved, NHRA tech guys suck...so dont know how it would have worked.Anyhow yours works pretty good. Leni if you can use the Kitfox 4 engine mount for your new motor build I still have it.It has the new style 582 side mounts but you may be able to make it work. You pay the freight up there and you can have it.I doubt I will ever use it. Randy
