  2. I would not try tail up taxiing, the change in power setting for fast taxi practice and the change in attitude are the most risky.  Like Ed said get some instruction, as much as you can stand, and then use a 3 point takeoff and landing on your first flights IMHO.

There is a WARNING in Ed Down's book, "Flying the Kitfox", against any fast taxi practice!  BTW:  IMO, this would be a good book for the new Avid pilots to read too.   EDMO

I will take yalls advice thanks !  I will also  check out mr Downs book .

  3. I would suggest some taildragger time with an instructor in a more tame type plane before tackling an Avid - I don't have any Magnum experience and don't know anyone who does - It might be a little easier to handle than a standard Avid or Kitfox.  The smaller birds are quicker than a factory taildragger in all respects, and experienced instructors can be surprised by the "high-performance" and responses needed for them.   You are going to need a BFR anyway, so why not get in some practice with that instructor, and you have to get the TD endorsement.   Calm air is needed for the first few hours in a TD - a gusty x-wind will need more skills to handle - it is not like landing a nosedragger.    So, I guess everything is a "go" for your Magnum?   What engine do you have?    EDMO

I'm planning all of the above you mentioned . I'm waiting on my A&P to get time for the condition inspection . The engine is a lycoming 0320 D 1-A  . When I took it to the grass strip I had to unload at the north end and taxi to the south end were the hanger is . I could tell then it was gonna be a handful for me anyway !

  4. Hi Edmo  not sure if you remember, but you sent me the magnum manual a wile back . Thanks again !  Also I've only flown 172's and haven't been up in 4 years no tail wheel time . I'm still waiting on a few things to get current ,but couple guys at the strip telling me to go practice getting the tail up . Any thoughts on this and how to go about it thanks .

  7. Hi I recently took my plane to a hanger and found that pushing it in and out is a lot harder by myself without someone back there guiding the tail . Since I'm Kaddy corner in the shared hanger . I gathered up some materials to build a simple tail wheel dolly and searched many pictures  but I can't decide if I want it to pivot before or aft of the tail wheel . I would think you would want to push down on the dolly to raise the tail rather than pick up like most pictures I see . Anybody have any input or  thoughts on this ? Thanks ,Toby

  8. Yea problem now is with the 4 blade prop that came on it , If I put bigger tires then it won't fit in the garage. Im looking now for a two blade prop  ,bigger tires , and prolby a hanger I can't see trailering it every other day to the strip . But I do like having it in the garage , I do a lot of sittin N drinking beer looking my plane in the garage LOL !!

  9. Just wanted to give an update on my magnum. Finally got it registered and that took six months .Fixed all the damage from the previous owners ground loop. His logs show around 15 hrs on plane after he built it and a special airworthy cert. That's expired I'm getting ready to take it to an A&P down the road at a local grass strip he said he would help me sort it out . So just wanted to post a few Picts and pretty soon get this bird back flying !  I think it needs some bigger tires lol  !!!

  10. Hi im looking for a double leaf spring for my magnum mine has a slight twist . It has two 5/16 mounting holes and the tail wheel hole is 7/16 total spring length is 15 1/2 ". Width is 1-1/2 then tapers to 1-1/4 at tail wheel . Anybody know where I can get a new one or should I just go to a spring shop and try to make one ?   Thanks, Toby

  11. Thanks for the reply Edmo It has a maule # tw-101 tail wheel I was reading somewhere on here it could cause ground loop not sure why . Something about the way it locks I don't know much about how it works but I read were they say there was a way to make it fully swivel for new tail wheel pilots . Not sure what all that means just yet .What is different about the Matco wheel?

  12. Hi earned my private ppl in 2009 haven't flown in a few years gonna be a little rusty plus gonna have to get some tail wheel . I been searching for a kit fox or avid for several years and finally bought a magnum on eBay few weeks ago that someone posted in the classifieds .I drove 26 hrs round Tripp straight and brought it to Louisiana from New Mexico that was a haul lol !!! . I feel like I got a good deal for 7,500 . The plane was ground looped and bent a couple tubes that I'm already repairing it has 47 hrs airframe and the builder bought the lycoming engine new in 2001 and it has 47 hrs also .looked  in the cylinders they looked new so I got it running and it runs fine .I was wondering why there's not much on the magnums out there ? We're there not that many finished and flying seems like a good airplane . Also I have a four blade warp drive prop what do you guys think about the four blade I've never seen a four blade on a plane like this . Anybody know of some plans or builders Manuel that someone might have for sale I didn't get any with it . I will try to post a few Picts thanks for any info .  Toby Evans ,,   Shreveport ,La    Also are there any avid/kitfoxeres around north Louisiana ?
