    Crash Lone Pine California
My Son was first responder to a plane crash in Lone Pine California.  All 5 got out before the plane burned thankfully.

    Herman,

Can you post a pic of your plane with the 29" Airstreak.  I am considering the same tire.

    Thanks

    F7-a update
I am late to the game on this. Where can I get the f7a bell cranks. Can I modify my bell cranks to f7a's if so what are the measurements. I saw the install instructions but without the parts kind of difficult to understand. I think that you cut out the old mixer when you install the morse cables. Could someone take some pics of the morse cable mounts and what replaces the mixer. I looked at the pics posted but did not see this info. Is there a comprehensive install guide somewhere.

Sorry for all the question but I get more confused every time I look at this.

    I have a mk4

    Thanks. Roy

Congrats on the purchase.  I had pretty much made up my mind to purchase this same aircraft.  But with two daughters playing for State in Softball I did not have the time to make the run up to do a prebuy inspection.  Told myself if it was gone within the next two weeks It wasn't meant to be.  Well you purchased the week of the tournaments.  What is that famous saying?? You snooze, you loose.

Get that thing flying and contact me, I wanna ride!   I would like to see what I missed out on and You can rub it in  .

I wonder if the entire gear leg is twisting. A 29" spinning at 45 mph is an awfully big gyro. How was it that you came to "observe" this Herman? Sure it's not something that has been going on since Day 1? Removing the covering is only going to add more drag for you.

    Glad to hear all this.

Fortunately I am a skilled brewer / distiller and the humvee is stashed in the woods. It's s nice one too, 1997 amg built. I've got the landing spot too!!!

No surrendering here, been dug in well for years

Have you guys ever seen the show mountain men on the history channel with the yellow j3 cub. That guy Eustace lives a couple miles away from me. You should hear his opinions on this stuff.

Sad to see another airplane destroyed from a trailering accident. I think this makes 3-4 now that I've seen or heard about. This would be a decent deal for a parts bird.

Welcome to the forum! Glad we could be of some help. With a little bit of time and work you are going to have yourself a fun cheap to operate bird. No comparison to heavy certified planes to how the fly. I often find myself flying over to check something out simply but just thinking about it. I fly with two fingers on the stick most of the time. The responsiveness of these birds is awesome especially in the roll axis!.

Don't worry - Well, go ahead and worry - but there are plenty of us independent Red-neck types still left - sorry, should have said, "right", not at all left! The schools have been filled with socialist, Marxist, teachers just like the ones who brainwashed Obama - And, He has bankrupted the country - But somehow, we will pay our debts in 30 or 50 years and maybe, survive - unless we give up!I love to remind all the poor Democrats about the video of the young, black, probably uneducated, and on welfare and food stamps, girl, who says, "I gonna vote for Obama - He gonna give me a Phone!"
If you have to sell your Hummer to pay for Obamacare, at least keep your guns and bird, and look for a landing spot somewhere in the hills where honest people are drinking moonshine instead of putting it in the gas tanks!
My ancestors fought the Kind of England for 40 years to win our Freedom - I am not going to surrender to a Commie!
    Have a nice day,

    Kitfox landing gear flex
It has been observed that my Model 2 Kitfox landing gear must be flexing when I am braking for as short of roll out as possible.
It was noticed  that when braking that the normally tight fabric covering on the gear is wrinkled and that the gear is towed out.
I use 29" Airstreaks and the brakes are capable of easily nosing the airplane over.
I am sure the size of these tires is placing more leverage on the gear than originally intended.
My first thought is to remove the covering, which I have seen on many Backcountry airplanes so I can watch for cracks.
Should I be concerned about this flexing considering that my wings flex all the time especially in turbulence?
Should I remove the fabric to watch for cracking?

    Thanks for the advice.
    Herman

We used to have inertia reels in the helicopters I flew, I hated them. I greatly prefer my kitfox setup

The alternative is a vertical radiator on the side or a belly radiator like my kitfox. I wish I had the cheek radiators though.

Looks like a nice avid though and good luck with it. Hope to see it flying soon

The FAA even allows the use of steel cables to extend your seat and shoulder belts to reach the mount - Of course, inertia reels are the most comfortable - if you trust them - I don't...

I was unclear, in the cars we had a harness bar behind the seats, the belts would ride along the setback brace which actually put the harness at the proper angle across your shoulder, then they turned down and ran all the way to the trunk. This allowed us to utilize the full length of the harness while still keeping it on your body and seat properly.

    Greetings to the Collective.

I've been away from flying for a good many years but recently decided to jump back in. I'd always liked the Avids 'n Foxes. I have 250 hrs PA28 time and 250 BC12D Tcraft time. I'm hoping this bird will be like the Tcraft.

Thanks to Joey and Rich M. for their invaluable feedback via email and texts as i looked towards this purchase.

I was actually considering getting into UL flying but after my g/f said "why don't you get a real airplane", I jumped on this C Mdl that many of you have seen or inquired into on Barnstormers. I was immediately attracted to the straightened fuselage and the HH wings w/fiberglass tanks. N951ST grosses at 1150. With it's IVO IFA prop, the seller/builder claims he'd cruise at 95mph (that's up there w/the Tcraft).

I have all the original receipts and build log.

It was a long haul from N. IN to NC - 620 mi and this bird accumalated thousands more cycles from bouncing down the highway on a modified snowsled trailer which resulted in wearing out and eventually bending the cheap old Maule single spring tailwheel.

I'm not too dismayed about that however -- the way I see it is it was the sacrificial anode of sorts - mounting the airframe rigidly to the trailer would have likely resulted in frame damage. Though the 4130 structure is very robust.

I considering different mods from simply retaining the Maule wheel but adding a dual leaf spring to a complete retrofit.

You could call this an this is an undamaged project. Actually FWF and an annual.  My rusty old A&P background will certainly be handly - but I do have my work cut out for me. "Radiators and 2 strokes OH MY". This is totally new territory for me! My only 2cycle experience was my Yamaha RD350 years ago. I've ridden 'em but never flown em.

The 582 was overhauled back in 2000, sealed in foam and boxed and only saw the light of day when the seller put it up on Barnstormers recently. So, I've got a motor to go through and update w/seals or whatever is called for.  But what's really got me perplexed. is the radiator set-up. What a mess. Interestingly (and fortunately) the airframe doesn't reflect this convultedness. One of the brackets is broken in half. I need to redo all the plumbing to aircraft quality spec and to include rods and staunchions for the radiators. But gezzzzzzzz that's a lot of footage of lines. I'm wondering if there is an alternative setup? ??
    .

    .

I welcome your feedback and suggestions on my project.

    Cheers:)
    Paul

I don't think I have a photo of my "Foxy" that shows the original tabs like Kitfox uses, but there are tabs on the lower tubes behind the seats for 4 belt ends to attach - there are tabs on each side back where the window tubes are, for the outside shoulder belts, and one center tab at rear of turtledeck, or a tube just forward of that, for attaching both inside shoulder belts. If you cant understand my jibber, I will try to take some photos of them.
NOTE: AC43-13 (I believe) gives acceptable "for your safety" degrees of mounting shoulder belts - Not too high, and definitely not too low - shoulder belts attached to the floor would be unsafe in their opinion. Something like 5 to 30 degrees UP from the shoulder is what I remember to keep from breaking your collar bone, or your whatever? Check it out.
If not in AC43-13, then I have it in another book. I will check on it.
