New kitfox model 1 and the hse700 0 hours

I won a kit from an auction i have avoided kits for years one because of the work but 2 I was nervous. Now I bought a kit with lots of parts im nervous but am full speed ahead. I’ll try and figure the upload out. I’m wondering if I should just sell the hks 700 with 0 hours and get a 912 or 914 from the get go or if I should put this one together.

The HKS is not overly powerful, but will fly the Kitfox 1.   A 912 is much heavier and would eat up your useable load considerably.  JImChuk

Thanks JimChuk I was taking an inventory last night and really looking this over. I don’t think the flaperons are here. I’ve got 2 different props and 4 engine mounts.  lots and lots of boxes not original pretty exciting adventure I’m thinking the guy was collecting parts as he went. The nice thing is I have lots of receipts and bills of sale etc. Happy Thanksgiving unless you’re in Canada then that already happened

I agree with Jim- The hks would be a great engine for the kitfox 1.  I did my flight training in a kitfox 1, with a 582.  Great fun, very good response, plenty of power.

As you build, I would look into the plywood stiffeners for the wings, which were one of the mods to the kitfox 2 that increased the gross weight from 850 to 950 pounds.  Take care not to add a lot of frills- weight adds up quickly.  I would recommend widening the fuselage a bit- it's fairly straight-forward.  Jim has some pics of how he did his kitfox in the kitfox 4 area.  When I was training, we had to fly with the doors off to get enough shoulder room for the two of us.  Later, during one of my flight reviews, the cfi "tested" me by opening his door on the avid I was flying.  I tested him back by opening mine..

Feel free to post questions as you run into them, and, try to do at least one little thing a day.  Same way you eat an elephant.

If you've never covered a plane, I recommend taking the EAA hands-on training if it's offered near you.

Post up some pictures of the mounts you have.  Maybe we can help you identify what they fit.  Other engine options are 582 Rotax and 80 HP Jabiru.  I had a Kitfox 1 with 582 and it really performed well.  JImChuk

TJ how long ago did you build that blue one? Do you know if the flaperons had to be built on the model 1?

The are very near the same.  As I remember, the belcranks are just a bit different.

I still have the originals I havent sold them yet because they are set up for the model 4 style mixer meaning the horns are installed at different angles and may or may not work for anyone else. A talented guy could cut them off and install new horns but it would be alot of work. That is why they just sit in my hanger.
