912 exhaust heat muff.. yes or no?

Getting there on my IV speedster.  I just called the exhaust company (Experimental Aircraft Exhaust) that kitfox sends their IV clients to, and was told that most people ordering exhaust systems are not adding the heat muff for carb heat.

I was also quoted a price that was over twice what it was 2 years ago from kitfox.. ouch!

Ok, I'm in Texas, I'm about to fab an airbox, and it'd be a lot easier without adding the air diverter, but I'm leaning towards the muff. Also need the exhaust installed so I can figure my plumbing routes.

Thoughts?

Thanks,

-Jack

It seems a lot of guys run their 912s with out carb heat.  I know I do up here in northern Mn.  I do have a smooth cowl, so have less airflow through the cowl I'm guessing, so the carbs probably get warmer air then if it was a round cowl.  I got a new muffler from the same company a yr ago.  Just the muffler was $825 if I remember right.  Ended up getting my old one welded up with more/better bracing and it's been staying together so far.  JImChuk

1000+ hours in round cowl Kitfox 4 in northern Wisconsin.

I've never run a heat muff on the exhaust.  A water to air heater core has been plenty for me.

I've never needed carb heat.  I took off the OEM heat muff carb heat box off my last Kitfox 4-1050 and gained 200 static RPM.
