Finally starting to warm up a bit around here.  Not flying much at the moment.  Going thru chemo treatments at the moment and they can knock the stuffing out of you.  Real nice evening today, and i just didn't feel up to it.  Better days coming though.  Staying positive.  JImChuk

Brian, I bought my Avid from another member of this site, we mutually executed some EAA paperwork expressly used to release any liability. This ment the aircraft remained registered and airworthy, so it took no effort to fly it, and yet the liability concerns were no problem. EAAA says nobody has ever won a suit on an experimental homebuilt, and virtually all experimental home builts are sold with the intact certificate and registration. But local non-aviation lawyers get the cold sweats!

Here is a page that discusses it, and even has the legal forms:  https://www.eaa.org/eaa/aircraft-building/builderresources/next-steps-after-your-airplane-is-built/selling-and-buying-articles/part-1-protect-yourself

If a buyer has to regenerate the airworthiness it is a big deal, and the price of the aircraft drops due to the uncertainty and work required. It also means the list of buyers shrinks to those who are inspectors or A&Ps and are comfortable with the FAA process.

Brian, thanks for the clarification. It is amazing that that nice looking aircraft is so light!

Here in the Cedar City area the Wx is great, except a bit windy lately. I know all about that "if they are shooting at you" part, my best war stories involve North Vietnam's finest!
