Looking for leads on a R&D or similar exhaust tuned for more top end on a 582.

Thanks, Ken

None of my business but you can't turn a pig's ear into a silk purse. A 582 at 6500-6800 rpm is about the best it can do. About all one can do with a tuned exhaust is move the peak torque range up or down. But one will lose it thru out the cruise range and move it to the upper range. Which might work if that's what you want to do. About the perfect setting is when the torque peak and HP peak match at a certain range. Hard to do with a 582 without sacrificing something else. But hey! If its what you need, go for it. Snow machine drag races, chain saw contest, jet ski's, yes, aircraft, not so much.

I agree with you however this aircraft operation is not typical. The 582 is used in a Dragonfly tug for the sole purpose of towing hang gliders. The entire climb duration to point of release is under full throttle. At that time the plane begins decent. So sacrificing mid range is not a concern as we don't cruise. I understand the carb jetting may have to be adjusted.
