Rework an Avid Project, needed parts

Hi guys, we  a flying club in Egypt, had built an unfinished AVID MK IV for some reason they did not finish the project like 15 years ago,  the question is,  currently we decided to rework and finish that aircraft but we have a few questions,

1- The one we have is a taildragger, can we convert it to nose wheel? if so what parts do we need?

2- The wings were buried in the sand of the desert for all that period, we winched them out so the main tube of one of the wings bent, the other wing strut is bent, the question can we buy the main tube and the wing formers, because they are made of wood and of course they are with zero moisture now.

Thanks and regards

Well I'll try to answer your questions.  The tail dragger main gear is different from the nose wheel type gear.  On factory fuselages that were equipted for nose wheel, there is a verticle tube a bit behind the firewall that the nose wheel gear fit into.  It was a factory option.  I don't have any dimentions for that tube or the nose gear, but I'm sure others may be able to help in that regard.  If your MK IV has the heavy hauler wings, (ribs 12" on center instead of 18") the spar size is 2 1/2" x .083" wall thickness.  That will probably be hard to find.  Avid's lighter duty wings used .065" wall thickness tubes for the spars, and so does Kitfox.  Maybe with a heavier stiffener inside the .065" spar, you could be just as strong as the thicker walled spar.   Kitfox and Just aircraft will sell the 2 1/2" x .065" spar material, and probably other metal suppliers would as well.  Maybe there is an equivalent size in Egypt that you could find.  Just aircraft will sell just the stiffeners as well, and being 5' long, they would be far easier to ship overseas.  I don't know where you would be able to find the ribs, if they aren't broke, and figure they will get broke removing the front spar, you could cut the spar in short pieces so you are only dealing separating the spar from one rib at a time.  A heat gun will help to soften the epoxy as well.  If new ribs are needed, they could be made fairly easily with 1/4" and 1/8" aircraft grade plywood.  Pictures are always helpful when a question is asked as well. :-) JImChuk

Good Luck! Great project!

Here is a wing construction document that is most helpful. I am searching for a supplier for the spars, and will post it when I find it.

2.5" x 1/16" x 144" tubing: https://www.extrude-a-trim.com/aluminum-extrusions/aluminum-tubing/aluminum-round-tube/9

Does the fuselage have a nose wheel weldment? If so I have original tricycle main gear and nose wheel fork.

Why on earth would someone bury aircraft wings in the sand? Was the Avid outside long enough to be burried/ in the sun/ sand storms etc??

Just wondering...
