Awesome awesome work!  Where are you with it now?

What material did you make the bucking board out of to form the firewall?

I'm interested in the Phazer powerplant having decided the FX series is really about 50lbs too heavy in the Avids and early KF's applications.   It's come down to that or a Jab.

Slowly plugging away. Panel and wiring basically done, console done, fuel plumbing done and the fuselage is covered. Next major task is to build the landing gear.

That is some really fine work you are doing. How did you form the firewall? I am currently at that stage on my plane.

Here here on the firewall. Do tell - looks awesome. You've been bending metal for quite some time obviously.

Did you make the carbon floorboards? They look nice.

I just cut them out of carbon fiber plate.

I don't think its a good idea to use carbon fiber in the cabin area.

In case of a crash, carbon fiber is brittle and can form very dangerous spikes.

In  modern gliders, the cabin is made  of  a composite of mixed carbon and aramid fibers, in that way it can delaminate without breaking

Just saying hello, been lurking here a while but finally joined since I got some projects caught up and can focus on my kitfox now.  I acquired a kitfox II a couple years ago it was at a nearly completed state but I have decided to dismantle it and start over. Plans are to implement a few of the great ideas found here and also add a few of my own. The major modification I’m undertaking is the removal of the 582 and installing an 07 Yamaha Phazer engine that I have been developing. So as the build progresses I’ll try to keep the thread updated and look foreword to any ideas and input.

What hp and weight does that engine produce?

the motor is advertised as 80hp. With the gearbox, adapter, throttle bodies and clutch it came in at 109 lbs, exhaust will be around 7lbs. I think it’s going to be a bit heavier than the 582  fwf but not much. The complete 582 fwf came in at 129 minus the prop.

What is the adapter on there?

It is a Phazer motor and he built his own adapter.

The PTO shaft is the same taper as the Rotax.  After you trim a little off the end you can put a RK400 clutch on it.  The C box looks like it was machined down because it was too long for everything to line up on the Phazer motor.  I am working on the same thing but if you check the Yamaha conversion Facebook group, I think there may be an adapter coming soon that is similar to the Apex adapter.

I try to keep a pretty low profile but you trying to hawk your product on my build thread kinda rubs me the wrong way Greg. I have my reasons for not selling my creations, topping the list would be my inability to sleep at night knowing someone has bolted one of my untested and unproven parts to their aircraft. The point of my build thread here is to share my ideas , help others realize they can build an aircraft if they have some ingenuity and the desire to build, I also want to give back to the community that has helped make my dream a reality.  No more solicitations please.

I like the firewall a lot.  Is it 0.016 301 SS? Did you weight it?
