OT: Garbage Pail Politics

THOUGHTFUL, RESPECTFUL dialog is possible for those who disagree on political views. Sure, you might never see exactly eye-to-eye, but perhaps you will learn something constructive or have a better appreciation for others point of view.

So, in light of the current clown show surrounding the Brett Kavanaugh confirmation hearings, can anyone here who 'identifies' as a Democrat explain to me why they support the actions of their chosen representatives in this matter (please keep to this specific topic only).

Gents, I can respect your views, however, its also you choice to not bother to click on the topic, read it, nor reply to it.  If you read the heading under which this is posted it states we talk about anything here just don't bash members..

Doug made it a point to put in the heading that it was off topic.  I am not going to get rid of anything that is not a direct attack on a member.  We are all adults and can make our own choice to not open or reply to a topic if the subject matter does not have anything to do with flying or building.

The sad reality is there is some seriously shady shit going on in the political world and something has to be done before the nation becomes an even bigger cesspool of crime and corruption.  It is your choice to read or not read any particular thread.

akflyer, this was a nice place to escape the crap that infests the internet. Think hard about your decision to let off topic political crap on a regular "hangar" site. It is a big decision you are making to support that crap. Can I suggest that you move it to Hangar Talk, which says it is specifically "A place for non-flying chit chat". That way we can avoid it easily?

Sheesh, I go away for the weekend and find this thread triggered a few people. Blah, blah, debate ruins forums so let's stop debate. Jeezus, listen to yourself. Government of, by, and for the people requires that people talk to people about public policy whether they like it or not. I think most Americans are able to discuss in a calm, respectful and civil manner if they choose.

You can choose to join them or stay away. Yup, you may have to put up with some real jerks in a political thread but you do not get to set the boundaries of free speech and silence reasonable conversation. I appreciate that political discussion is always sooo emotional, as you say. GOOD! Emotions and their roles in our lives help to define our values, focus our attention on our goals, and serve as fuel for ongoing behavior. They are the passion part of author Angela Duckworth's "grit", where she identifies successful goal striving as a formula of passion plus perseverance. Grit is good, running from what makes you uncomfortable is not. Suppression is unacceptable.

I closely follow and am amazed by what I see in the current state of politics, not only in our country and abroad. That it is now exceeded only by the level of apathy, misinformation and polarization is facinating to me. I'd like to hear serious thoughts from serious people. If Leni wants to set up a dedicated 'Off Topic' forum to reduce anxiety, I'm all for it.

Thanks Leni, open forums are why I came and support this site.

Nothing has changed, this is still the same place it has always been.

Gents, the very thing that made me set up this site is not something I will start doing.  A little history here.  The "other" sites were / are heavily moderated.  If one person says something against a advertiser etc on said sites the thread is shut down. locked down and people get banned.  I do not believe in that so this site was founded (ok its a little deeper, I got banned for calling an idiot an idiot so here we are).

If you happed to click on the general hanger (the one this thread is in and the one I originally set up) it states that here we talk about anything we just doing single out and bash other members.  When Joey became a moderator here he set up the other one not realizing that this one was already for said "chit chat"  There are model specific sub forums etc for the real nitty gritty but my intention for this particular sub forum is for it to be used just as Doug and many other have done.

It still amazes me that grown men who have the freedom to choose to open or ignore any thread they want to, will still get upset that it is there.  The post is clearly labeled off topic and states that its garb age pail politics.  Why in the bad word would someone who is obviously so against a thread such as this bother to open it and reply and act offended.. we are adults, DONT OPEN IT IF YOU DONT WANT TO READ IT.

I for one agree with Doug on this and I to am tired of the few trying to destroy the many.  The only thing I see being done when some one bring up a thought provoking point is the other side of the isle SHOUTING it down, throwing fits and acting pretty damn in appropriate for an "adult".

This site, this country was founded on free speech and I am not going to violate those founding principles.

I genuinely appreciate each and every person here on this site, the contributions they make every day to keep our airplanes in the air and to help / nurture the new owners so they hopefully don't make the same mistakes we have made ($$$ spent for no gains etc) but I still can't find it in me violate my founding principles.

I hope you understand that we can agree to disagree and still laugh and have a good time when we are bellied up to the bar or sitting around the camp fire on a remote strip some place lying about how good we once were.

^Thankfully most folks agree that will always remain the best philosophy.

I think most would also agree we are seeing record levels of political misinformation today and that some are susceptical to it. Theory of motivated reasoning in political science suggests people rarely think rationally and then come to reasoned political decisions. Instead, they rationalize their way into the decisions that they had already wanted to make. Add the two together and it equals = wtf!?

Back to my original question. Clearly, the minority dems on the senate committee have embraced the personal attack vs. professional qualification approach in an effort to delay or derail the Kavanaugh confirmation. Just wondering how many folks  support those actions and why.

For example, do you believe:

1. His public judicial record shows he is unqualified. Cite specific example(s) please.

2. He is qualified but sexual abuse allegations disqualify him. Cite specific example(s) please.

3. He is qualified, sexual allegation(s) are uncorroborated but alcohol abuse allegations disqualify him. Cite specific example(s) please.

4. Other. Cite specific example(s) please.

5. Any conservative nominee must be stopped using whatever means necessary.  Clarify your 'up to but not including actions', if any.

^I remember that. Very entertaining. :)

_______________

So one aspect of the current political environment that always seems to manifest itself is the ability of otherwise honest, decent folks to 'look the other way', or personally rationalize, when some one or entity exhibits behavior in furtherance of a shared political goal that they, themselves would otherwise find unacceptable. Ie., their personal morals go right out the window and are replaced with a win at all cost mentality. Despicable.

So now it is the dems in DC pulling out all stops against a nominee because they and [edit: a large portion of] their base oppose any conservative appt to the SC. (If you can't even start this discussion with that reality, please go away and educate yourself.)

Here's where I see the dem game plan going this week.

  • √ Phase 1 – Activate last minute delay chaos (prior “Me Too” investment).
  • √ Phase 2 – Use sex assault claims to demand investigation, further delay. Use republicans, not democrats, to establish/frame the delay.
  • √ Phase 3 – Use investigation to frame validity narrative; further delay.  Use republican fear (leverage Jeff Flake) not democrats, to continue the delay. Manipulate FBI. Shift investigation goalposts.   <=WE ARE HERE
  • Phase 4 – Use “deeply flawed investigation” narrative (witnesses ignored); to isolate Murkowski/Collins and keep Flake in position.  Drum mid-term “Let the voters decide”.
  • Phase 5 – The mid-term election.

So far, the DC dems are executing this policy flawlessly. The shift to Phase 4 should be anticipated for the Thurs. media cycle. On or around Oct. 15 the mid-term gravitational field will take over. Again, if you identify as Democrat, do you agree with the game plan? Who has the balls to publicly agree with their plan rather than secretly applauding? I haven't found a SINGLE person yet. What does that tell you about people, politics, independents, dems or repubs?

This is modern McCarthyism and as Thomas stated a high-tech lynching.

The political left (note, not liberals and not Democrats) are using these lynch mob tactics perfectly.  Look at the anarchistic mobs combing the streets with the deep state sourced intelligence of their targets.  Cruze, Sanders, and now the spinless RINO, Flake, accosted in an elevator by Soros Foundation paid operatives, to name a few.

It's disgusting.

HAhahahah...  I remember that now!

The only reason I would want to debate him again to get another shot at his porn star arm candy..  There were a few others that got the smack down as well but JP was the biggest one.  The medication must be working for me, I have not yet resorted to tactics of yesteryears.

What's it going to take for the people of Alaska to get rid of Murkowski?

Getting rid of the liberal cry babies that moved up here to get away from the CA politics that they have now brought with them.  Once they figured out it was expensive to live here, instead of moving back out of state they just keep crying for more public assistance and looking for additional hand outs wherever they can get them.  Pisses me off to no end.

If this bothers you, do something to make your voice heard. Call your Senators at 202-224-3121.

I have called, emailed and written senators...  We want results we need term limits and we need to be able to hold them personally accountable.  If we ran our business the way that they run our country we would be out of a job in days.   I could care less what side of the isle a person is sitting on, it is not about a party to me, it is about what is best for our country as a whole.  The unfortunate thing is that one party has decided to make every citizen its bitch and people are blindly following them.  It amazes me the amount of votes that free cell phones and a few bucks will get someone.  It is no longer about right and wrong, it is strictly about who can make sure I don't have to get up to go to work in the morning yet still live a comfortable life.

I have bad heart burn over this as I know you both do as well.  Self made men are what makes this country great.  Not the ones born into it with a silver spoon and no true appreciation for hard work and dedication.  It matters not how many times we get knocked down, only that we get back up and continue to fight.

Well it is safe to say the 'blue dog democrat' days of JFK have been taken away. I used to vote across party lines regularly but it reached a point where the vast majority of democrat candidates were becoming progressive leftists and liars. I no longer saw rational sense and honesty. Today when I see fascists they're almost all on the left, particularly the 'progressive' left, and I find I have much more in common with conservative civil libertarians then with any progressive leftist democrat. And I vehemently disagree with deliberately destroying an innocent person to promote any political agenda regardless of your views.

Dunno if you saw this guy's #WalkAway video that went viral a few months back. https://youtu.be/51UGcghHZsk

There are true democrat and real Liberals out there, they are not the issue.  It's the leftists that are the true problem.  Democrats and liberals still love America and respect debate and discussion.

Leftists are of the mob mentality and want to tear down the Constitution and our entire country.
