Looks like you are well on your way to having a nice airplane.  If it was me, I would widen the fuselage and add some bracing to the seat truss before you cover the airplane.  JImChuk

Nice looking plane Jared. Nice clean install on the engine. I like the looks of the radiator plentom mounted on the back of the one radiator. Alot of guys claim higher under cowl temps with the cheek radiators. With a couple of plentoms like these and by sealing around the radiators/cowl that should help keep the temps down under the cowl.

Where are you located Jared?

I live in Friday Harbor WA, I am hoping to sell this fwf, and go with a Yamaha, if it does not sell I will use it.

Widen the fuselage? I have bubble doors.

This  is what I did with mine.  It gave me 3" wider at the top of the seat.  I went 4" wider on my Kifox 4, but it doesn't have the baggage compartment door on the side like the Avid does.  I used 7' of 1/2"  035" wall tubing on each side.  JImChuk

I chose to forgo the hassle of a wide body mod with my plane.  In all reality you don't gain anything if you have the bubble doors.  IMO, where these planes need the extra width is at the hip.  The wide body mod does nothing for that.

At the front bottom of the door, there is no gain in width.  At the back bottom of the door it is 1 1/2" wider on each side.  The back of the seat is pretty much at the back of the door.  It is wider at the hips and shoulders in my opinion.  I like it so much on my Avid, I would almost do it on  a finished plane that I owned.  I have another Kitfox 4 that is covered, and have agonized over pulling the fabric back off to do the mod.  Although they are getting closer, my shoulders are still wider than my hips.  ;-)  JImChuk

Ok thanks . Stripped off the door and bending it 2in now , then frame to that.

I would probably go the other way, do the fuselage, and make the door fit it.  The door won't bend very well if at all with the windows in place.  And if they are fit already, they most likely wont fit later after the door is twisted.   JImChuk

That was quick.  You wont regret it.  Fly with someone with the regular width and you will be glad you added the extra lb or two.  JImChuk

PS  good idea to brace up the seat truss and under the doors as well as long as you are handy with steel.

I am going with 40in fox shocks, seat truss should not be a issue. When I measure at the bubble door at its widest I will have 44in, that great for my fat ass.

The seat pan does not change.  The pan sits several inches below the door sill.  There is no more room at the hip, the door sills prevent this.  Sorry, but I must disagree.

Look at this photo.  I took it of my new seat cushions. It clearly shows the seat well below the door sill (requiring more upholstery work).

If you like it, go for it.  To me it was a waste of time.

Cut the fuselage in half lengthwise and widen it, build a new seat pan and then you may have something.

I won't argue with you Larry.  If you're happy with yours, I'm glad for you.   I'm happy with mine, and I'm glad for me as well.  That's why we fly experimentals.   We get to more or less do our own thing.  :-)  JImChuk

Well it looks like 2 good ideas to me. Luckily for me I'm 5'8 and 150 lbs so I don't need to do any widening. It comes with a downfall too , I need a cushion so I can see over the dash of a 172 . My loehle 5151 also needed some seat mods so I could actually see too. Sometimes it's good being small sometimes not so much . The only thing I don't like about the avid seat is that it sits so straight up .

I like the sling seat way more than the fiberglass seat.  Had to put some foam behind my lower back with the fiberglass seat or my back would start to hurt fairly soon.  The sling seat is also more adjustable for height.  JImChuk

Old back injuries bother me - I hated getting into and out of the Kitfox seats, and I am only 5' 7"  - I changed mine so that I sit higher and straighter than those seats - I used Cabellas high-back boat seats like Suberavid has - the only set that would fit was 16" wide - also raised my wings 6" which has caused me more work - new struts and fittings.  EDMO

Can anyone post pictures of the sling seat ? I'm going to see a specialist soon about surgery on my lower back . I've got to many issues with it and need something done asap so I can actually get to have fun and not be in constant pain . All the years of playing is definitely catching up on my fast .

I borrowed a street sign to make the seats adjustable for me in the passenger, nice he is 2 1/2 inches higher than the passenger seat which sets  on the bottom right longeron, and I've been able to take a 6 foot six passenger
