    Uncertified fabric deal
Hi all,  I saw this on barnstormers last week and after talking to the seller, I ended up getting a 28 YD long piece.  It came today, and I'm happy with it.  I did try to shrink one corner of it, and it acted just like regular aircraft fabric would.  It's the same stuff as aircraft spruce used to sell according to the seller.  I covered several airplanes with that stuff over the years with no problems.  Sort of a no brainer for me, $4.25  a yd, verses about $17.00 for the stuff with a stamp on it.  Anyway, I thought it was a good deal.  He did take it off of a roll and ship it folded, but not in such a way that it got wrinkled.  I put it onto a roll tonight and it's not at all wrinkled, shipping probably would have been twice as much in a 6' long tube verses about a 12x12x16" box.  JImChuk

  2. 1avidflyer added a post in a topic Kitfox IV Standard Gear for sale

The Kitfox gear should bolt onto the Avid attachment points.  Same dimensions.  I tried to put some Avid Flyer gear on a Kitfox 1 once, and the 1/2" brace tubing was in the way of where the bungee fit over the seat truss.  Kitfox on an Avid would probably have cleared in that area.  Here is a picture of where we put my spare Avid gear on a tricycle geared Kitfox 4 so it would fit on my taildragger style trailer when we hauled it home.  It was tied together at the axels so bungees were never used.  Once we got it home and the repairs were done, we put the nose dragger grove gear back on.  JImChuk

On every Avid and Kitfox I widened I had to taper the lift strut fairing to make room for the wider fuselage.  This is my last Kitfox 4 lift strut.  JImChuk

HKS may be am option as well.  Friend has one in a Skyraider 2.  60 HP 4 stroke.  Enough power in a light enough plane.  Guy used to post here who had one in a C model.  He has youtube videos of it flying.  JImChuk

I had a 2200 generation one Jabiru in it.   Worked pretty good.  I would do another again.  I have another MK IV project, and I'm debating between a 912 and the Jabiru for it.  I sold my Avid about a year ago, the new owner loves it last I heard.  He had about 50 hrs on it by then.  JImChuk

I'm sure some have.  I know someone here who did it on a Kitfox 1 that had the same style door.  He also widened the fuselage at the same time.  I think it would be pretty easy to do for someone who has the proper skills.  JImChuk

They were maybe 1/8" thick.  I laid up some fiberglass on an old lexan windshield.   I used some of my polyester resin a week ago, and it hardened up just fine.  It's a few years old.

I have been under the weather lately, so couldn't measure my MK IV fuselage for you.  Maybe this drawing will give you an indication of what you were asking for.

A model is 36" wide at the top of the seat.  Others are 39 1/2" wide.  Gross weight is much less as well.  Originally had a welded in motor mount, not bolted on like later models.

Wanted: Kitfox 3 or 4 Grove main landing gear
The title tells it all, I'm looking for a grove gear and brackets for my Kitfox 4 project.  I do have a never used factory Kitfox cabane gear if someone wants to trade, but I'm willing to buy one outright as well.  Private message me for starters.  Here is a picture of the Kitfox gear and another after I faired and covered the gear legs.  I'm keeping the axels though if I sell or trade this gear.  Thanks,  JImChuk

The resin I used was polyester resin, the stuff made by bondo.  Was just looking at it on line and a number of people were complaining about it not hardening up, I've never had that problem.  Made lots of stuff with it.  I did buy the gallon cans of resin.  Not that that should matter???  JImChuk

The Kitfox tanks had kreem fuel tank sealant in them, and I used acetone to try to get it off.  Not sure how many layers I used, but the new rib I made was about 1/8" thick.  Probably used three or four layers of fiberglass cloth to join the ribs back to the bottom of the tank.   I think I made the rib on a piece of old lexan windshield.  Thinking now, and I may have done that, I would lay another piece over the layup of fiberglass, and screw down a piece of plywood over the top to squeeze it all flat while it sets up.  I used the fiberglass resin like you find at walmart.

I had an issue with my Kitfox 4 tank when I did something dumb.  I cut the part of the top off the tank, and refiberglassed things back together.  Has been fine since.  I added one more rib of fiberglass for good measure.  I may have posted a thread about it on here a couple of years ago.  JImChuk

Fuselage, seat, fuel tank, rudder pedals.   Joy stick and mixer controls behind the seat I think.   One landing gear, wings and flaperons (such as they are) lift struts.  Brake master cylinders and slave cylinders, and rotors, wheel hubs.  Aluminum rims are not in very good shape.   Send me a private message with your phone number and I'll give you a call if you like.  JImChuk

I snapped this picture today of my Kitfox 4 flaperon hanger.  Maybe that will give you the info you are looking for.  I believe that Avid flaperon is a good bit lower.  JImChuk

  22. 1avidflyer added a post in a topic 582 stutters on bumpy airstrip

The type 54 carb in the top of the Bing carb page has two cables coming into the top of the slide it looks like.  That of course is not the carb used on the 582.  Lot of the other parts shown are interchangeable though.  And actually the 912 type 64 and the 582 type 54 carbs use the same floats.

That is very heavy.  Would almost wonder about your scales.  Rotax says one should wipe the floats off, and let them air dry for a couple of minutes before you weigh them.  Bing says it sells only for motorcycles on their website, but I've bought from them and used these floats in my 912.  I've always been tempted to try the white single piece floats they show, my type 94 on my Jabiur engine had that float from Jabiru, and it worked fine for 20 years.  At least it looked to be the same looking at the pictures.  Like I said, I've been tempted to try, but haven't.  JImChuk
PS,  Leading edge airfoils, and Lockwood aviation sell them as well for more money I believe.

  24. 1avidflyer added a post in a topic NR prop bolts concern

My NR hubs do use drive lugs.  They are not threaded, but rather have a 5/16"/8mm hole through them.  I think the bolts where the deformation shows were not tightening up correctly or enough.  Even though the torque wrench said they were tight enough.  Might be that the galvanizing (if there is any) was being squeezed off the bolt threads and galling and binding up.

PS   When I submitted my first post on this topic, I put the pictures in the order I wanted them to be in, and wrote my description accordingly.  Just looked now and they are not in the correct order.   Picture one and three are the 80 HP with about 175 hrs run time, pictures to and four are the 100 HP with about 15 minutes run time.

    NR prop bolts concern
Hi all,  I have about 175 hrs on my NR two blade prop on my Kitfox 4 with 80 HP 912.  I've adjusted the prop a number of times between winter and summer, but never actually took the bolts out.  The other day I put a balance master on it, and got new AN5 bolts for the install.  Here is what I found.  I've always torqued the bolts to correct torque, but a few times it did seem like a couple of them acted weird.  Like not turning as much as I expected at the next torque setting.  I would say that apparently, they weren't tightening up to correct torque, at least some of them.  I'm back to working on my new built Kitfox 4 now, and I took the NR two blade prop off of it, so I could work on the engine and cowl install better.  I had ran this engine/prop about 15 or 20 minutes last summer, before I got side tracked.  Both times I used the bolts that NR supplied with the props.  Last prop I know of that came from them didn't come with bolts.  Maybe I'm not the only one who had an issue.  I like the prop, gives good performance, but if you are running their bolts, you may want to have a look.  First and third pictures are the 80 HP, the number two and four are from the 100 HP 912 with 15 or 20 minutes run time.  JImChuk
