I ordered mine from the website in June. Check the internet and that's where I found them. Maybe they shipped them thru one of their dealers. Anyway, I ordered the tires from them and got them in 4 days. Probably because of the pandemic, everybody uses that excuse lately.

Yeah, I got my PH.D on Bing 54 carbs. The needle is a little more complicated to get just right due to many various configurations available.

Yes it can be done. I used a dremel tool and cut the case in half.

Lighten up the 0-200 a few lbs and it opens up the canidates a bit. Only had 2 problems out of an 0-200 in years past and both due to pilot misuse. The exhaust valve on #4 cyl and heads cracking at the exhaust valve on the same cylinder. All due to pilots cut and dropping causing thermal shock to the front left cylinder. And yes, mostly on rental aircraft. Have never replaced one on a private owned aircraft due to this. Rental aircraft live a tough life.

Got the intake issue solved, got the leak solved, but EGT's still a little warmer than I like from idle to mid-range. Going to check the E clip position next along with the idle jet. But things are slowly coming together. They are at 1 1/2 turns out now. Which should be correct according to the HKS manual.  But I've changed the intakes to shorter so could be a factor. CHT's are good so a little tweaking might be in order.

    Air Screw
Someone refresh my memory, the air/fuel screw on a Bing 64 carb (912) is an air screw, turning it out leans the mixture and turning it in richens the mixture, Idle mixture of course.

Sounds like a standard Model 2 wing spar. About all of them had the spar insert. Only mod I would make is to reinforce the rib tails per the manual.

Some more re-engineering to do. Didn't care for the T handle throttle so making a reversing pivot to use a standard throttle. Carb springs want to pull it to idle so will use the veriner throttle.

Been there, done that, got the T-shirt and coffee mug. And still got media in certain body parts! Somehow it finds its way into every crack (literally) and crevice there is even with a full body suit.

Back to the engineering dept on the HKS. Custom intakes are causing some issues with the EGT's.  May go back to stock manifolds and see if they settle down.  Buckchop, you have any spare explosives?  With the curved manifolds, throttle and choke cables need to be redone along with the cowling like Mike Rickett's to clear the carbs. It never ends.

If I had a hat on, I'd take it off to you!  Anyone who would start  a rebuild on that deserves an atta boy!  Wish I had your outlook!

Maybe someone here should give one a try. I would guess it would have to be a light Avid/Fox. If I hadn't just got the HKS I'd be willing to invest in one, if they are available yet. I'd like to know a little more about them before committing 7K or so. So far I've seen very little about the spec's on it. One of the Fla. guys should have a look at one and repot to us. I think he is located in Fla. I'd be willing to chip in a few bucks for gas for an honest report on one. I'd come closer to believing one of us than a video of someone talking about how great they are. I tend to be skeptical about new engines being bulletproof.

Found the oil leak. A factory pressed in plug right beside the screw head. It was seeping and running down the fins valley right to the screw head. A little uckum pucky on the plug sealed it up. Now put it all back together.

I've been paying attention to this engine and following its progress. Sounds good but I'd like to see a few in the field and flying for a couple hundred hours before committing to it. He doesn't mention who makes it or how long it will last before replacement is needed. 800-1000 hrs is a respectable time limit. When I talked to him he wasn't too forthcoming on information about it. And not sure how it would fit in an Avid/Fox cowl. First initial impression is its a neat package.

Yanked the head off and found no cracks. Will replace the gaskets and give it another try.

Going to pull the cylinder today to verify it. But with the luck I've been having  with this project?  Buying a used cylinder would be risky and it could be the head cracked which might be repaired. We'll see.

Just checked the price for a new cylinder, almost $1000. Beginning to rethink the whole process. Maybe get back to trout fishing!

So much for the trying adventure. Its become a love/hate issue. Found a small oil drop underneath one of the cylinders after running it and most likely going to be a cracked head. Could have been that way from the factory or somebody with no torque wrench. Now to pull the cylinder and find out.  Doesn't seem like I'll ever get to fly this thing!

Just bend a little at a time. I know its a pain, but going thru the gas cap with a piece of safety wire you can raise the arm to check your adjustments. It will register (using safety wire) without gas.

Look up Airscrew Performance in Glendale, Az. Steve Beatty, he has the personality of a cold rock but he has been in the game 34 years. If he can't or won't then your left with Rotax Rick. People either love him or hate him.

You can pull it out and adjust the arm on the float. Aircraft Spruce also sells them. It is a bendable arm or can be shortened, depending on what you need.
