This is the start of a New Year - I know that Leni will not be asking for members to contribute to supporting to the site - But, for the information of all the new members, I am posting this.

Leni "AkFlyer" has spent a lot of his own money keeping the site going over the past years - hackers have messed up the site several times, and he has had to pay each time to get it working again.

I encourage all of you to become "contributing members" in any amount that you can afford.

Leni can receive checks, paypal payments, cash, however you can get it to him.

Just send him a PM and the amount you can give to keep the site going, and he will tell you how.

I am very thankful that he has set up the site and keeps it running, and to all of you who write to ask questions or give information to help your fellow builders and flyers:

I have waited a long time to receive this news! Avid is under new ownership! I proudly introduce to you Mark Mendick. Mark is an Engineer from Iowa. Please keep in mind this is all still very new and please be patient as Mark gets up and running. I have personally spoke with Mark and he is excited to get this off the ground.

Mark will first be focusing on making parts from the same, original jigs and fixtures used in the 90's for customers who have spent years looking for parts that fit their Avid. As the manufacturing facility takes shape, they will go into full-scale production, manufacturing and shipping the same, easy to assemble Avid kits people fell in love with at a cost that makes flying affordable for everyone.

Avid’s business development is still in the early stages. Mark is working on an online presence, sorting through old parts lists and manuals, and setting up the manufacturing facility. If you or anyone you know have pictures they would like to share before, during, or after the build, he would love to see them and maybe even include them on his website! He would also love to speak with anyone looking for Avid parts. This includes everything from a complete wing set down to a rudder pedal bracket. Just like Avid in the 1990’s, Avid today will only be sourcing from the highest quality material suppliers in the market. He will strive to take customers input into consideration as they revitalize this company and are so excited to meet all of the Avid enthusiasts.

Changing or adding your avatar picture

Click on your screen name in the upper right hand corner of the screen, you should see a drop down menu. Click on "my profile"

Once on your profile page, there should be a button on the right side of the srecc a couple inches below where you just selected your screen name at that says "edit profile" Click that big button.

On the left you should have a menu of things you can change. Click on "change avatar"

You can now upload the image from your computer. It will resize the picture automatically if you dont already have it sized down to 150 X 150.

A word of advice here. If it is a huge picture, you will want to crop it down to the area that you are really intersted in showing so when it resizes the pic, you can still see what you want shown... IE, if the picture happens to be you flying with a cool mountain back drop and the original size is some huge 2000+ X 2000+ when it resizes the picture to 150 X 150, you will need a magnifying glass to see your plane and it will look like a fly turd on a white back ground.

If these destructions leave you totaly in the dark, and nothing is really shown on the screen like I said it would be let me know. As admin, my screen looks a little different than your does and I will have to make another ID for meself so I see what you see

While you are in there adding your picture etc, you can also add in a signature line so it will show on every post and you dont have to keep typing in your name every time. If you have troubles with it and want me to do it for you that is not a problem, just shoot me a note or post up a pic and tell me to put it in as your avatar.

The NEW registration process

When you sign up for a new account, please check the SPAM folder in your email. The forum software will automatically send you an email when you register that you have to click the link to complete the USER part of the registration. I get a lot of emails telling me that they can't log in. The forum software will not notify me that I need to approve a new member UNTIL that new member clicks the validation link in the email. I try to look at my control panel every couple of days to see if there are pending registrations, and if they are I will take care of it, but I don't always see the pending registrations until the new user clicks the validation email.

Well guys, thanks to the multiple hackings we have had here, I will now require that when you sign up I will shoot you an email asking why you would like to join the site what you fly etc. This is to try and keep the hackers out of the site and keep it open for all of you guys. I know it may seem a little intrusive, but I wont ever email you again asking any personal questions.. well, unless your a smoking hot blond with a nice plane that loves to hunt and fish, if your a bird hunter, I may ask for pictures of your dog and what kennel the dog was trained at. I take my bird hunting seriously

Please don't be offended by a few simple questions, its for the best for the site.

While it is a pain in the butt for me to approve all new members manually, its the steps that have to be taken to keep the site up and running as I am about done with hacks and the hassles of them.

Need something edited? Have an idea for the forum?

Leni (AKFlyer)is the owner and creator of this website. Joey (C5Engineer) is a moderator. Since Leni works on Mars and is away from the site often I volunteered to help out. If you need a post edited, moved, deleted, ect send me a Private Message and I can work it for you.

Have an idea for the site or something you would like to see added? Let us know! While neither of us are particularly computer savvy we will do our best to keep everyone happy.

The goal when this site came online was to not moderate the heck out of peoples posts and opinions like some other sites out there. Avidfoxflyers is a place to share information, brag, shoot the breeze, and have fun! I'm here strictly to houseclean and keep things running smoothly.

What to do if your member account was deleted

All,

I have been getting alot of registrations in the last week that look like bots signing up. I just deleted several accounts after emails were not returned etc. If I deleted your account, please shoot me an email and I can re-instate it. I dont want to have to review each new member who wants to sign up, as it will slow down the regisration process, however, I may have to bump up the registration requirements (security) if they keep hitting me hard.

task-based operating limitations program letter

I am going round and round with the San Antonio FSDO, attempting to get them to accept my AWC request.

They insist that the wording in my program letter does NOT meet the requirements, but do NOT offer any suggestions.

It's the "rock" request- bring me a rock. Nope, that's not the rock I wanted. Bring me a rock.. (5 attempts thus far)

Here's the complaint:

The program letter: in accordance with FAA order 8130.2L chapter 15 (21.191(g)) section 15-4 (a)(2) Program letter complies with 21.193.

In accordance with 14 CFR 21.193(d) In the case of an aircraft to be used for experimental purposes--

The purpose of the experiment -You have this.
The estimated time or number of flights required for the experiment- You still need this.
The areas over which the experiment will be conducted-You have this.
Three-view drawing-You have this.

My last offer:

"'As per the requirements of FAA (AC) 90-89c as interpreted in the EAA
Flight Test Manual (V 2.0), a minimum of 20 flights will be required to
complete the flight testing using the task-based approach, utilizing the
EAA flight test cards. An Aircraft Operating Handbook (AOH) will be
developed during the testing program.'"

Which wasn't good enough.

So, here's my request:

Has anyone asked for, and been issued operation limitations utilizing task-based testing? As an added extra, has anyone been issued operating limitations which include the new MOSAIC permissions for additional repairman's rights, as pertains to conditional inspections?

If so, I would GREATLY appreciate the wording of the limitations. And maybe the wording in the program letter

Avid Champion info needed

Looking for info/plans for a Champion. I’m considering building a part 103 plane, and looking for info on it.
I have started building wings for a Mohawk(Avid clone) using the speed wing ribs. But possibly looking to go the 103 route. From the looks of what little info I can find online, the Champion uses the same wing construction, just not certain if they use the same 2.5” spars. Also looking for info on fuse construction. I assume 1/2” 4130 with .035 wall. Need some detailed measurements, etc.

Does nobody visit the site anymore or do they just all lurk? Team Kitfox is almost the same way. Even the face book groups have very few new posts on them each day. Has interest in light sport aviation like our Avids and Kitfoxes provide died out? I have thought that face book killed off the forums like this one and everyone had moved over to there, but it's fairly quiet as well. I know I miss the way it used to be here and on Team Kitfox 10 or 15 yrs ago. JImChuk (rant over)

The original designer of the Avid Flyer, and the numerous copies or near copies of aircraft has passed away today. Dean Wilson contributed so much to the light plane world that we know today. We have all been benefited so much by what he brought to our worlds.

Avid Flyer Mk4 wide landing gear bungee length

Hi,
I am about to change the bungees on my Avid Flyer Mk4 HH. It has the wide gear. The old bungees have 8 wraps, instead of the 7 that I understand you get with 90" bungees.
So, should I keep the 8 wraps and what is then the length of the bungees?

Bungee questions

Morning-

so, I am about to swap the bungees on my MK IV with the wide stance gear. I’ve done my research and homework yet still have two issues.

i ordered the shock cord from AS and what came in is ALL black, not flecked. It does seem relatively stiff (as compared to Ace hardware stuff) but I’ve nothing to compare it to. AS says, both in the catalog and when Inspoke to the rep on the phone, that it’s for landing gear...thoughts?

Secondly, with the slick outer casing, should I up the number of wire wraps? Would too many be detrimental and possibly cause premature failure by cutting into the cord?

Suggestions and advice GREATLY appreciated

I live under Class B airspace so haven't flown my SkyRaider II since the 2020 ADSB mandate, shifting all of my flying to my Cozy, which has an ADSB transponder.

I've set aside my SkyRaider as a retirement project, and I'm now retired. First item on my retirement project list was to turn my hangar into a year round work space, which I've completed in the last year, insulating and finishing the interior of my hangar and adding a heater. I'm now starting to give some attention to the SkyRaider. The squawk list includes:

Add ADSB. I'm leaning toward replacing my King KT76A mode C transponder with a Trig TT31 Mode S slide in replacement and adding a Trig TT72 WAAS GPS position source.
Minor OH on the Rotax 503. Less than 150 hrs on the engine, but 20 years and now idle for 5 years. Many OH shops no longer do 503s.
Build float fittings for the PuddleJumpers I bought years ago.
Move the battery from just behind the firewall to behind the rear seat so I can remove ballast that I had to add to the tailwheel to achieve W&B.

I'm pacing myself, so I'll post updates occasionally.

Hi all, I've been a victim to this also. You post something up on a new topic, and it doesn't seem to take. So we repost again, sometimes multiple times. It seems like the first post does go through, we just need to be more patient. Lately, I've just opened up another window, and let this one sit until the post goes through. I'll see if it works on this one, and will put a PS on what I find out later today. JImChuk
